Heading the Global Influenza Programme of WHO since November 2012. Since 2002, leading the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS). In response to 2009 A(H1N1) pandemic, directing the Laboratory Response and Capacity of WHO response.

Scientific expertise on influenza includes surveillance, virus monitoring and detection of emerging novel viruses, vaccine development and vaccination policies, pandemic preparedness in particular pandemic vaccine response and risk assessment.

Other technical expertise includes surveillance and control of TB, Schistosomiasis and Iodine Deficiency Disorder being National Program Officer in China of various WHO, WB, UNICEF and UNIDO projects before joining WHO.

MD by education with postgraduate training on epidemiology and a degree on biomedical engineering.
